Party leaders in Ontario and Quebec as the federal election campaign continues
The three main party leaders remain at the center of Day 18 of the federal election campaign.
Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau starts his day by announcing his program in Toronto.
Conservative leader Erin O’Toole is also in Ontario, with an early morning announcement at the Ottawa hotel that he used as a main base throughout the campaign.
NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh is in Quebec City for a Montreal housing ad, followed by a virtual town hall in the evening.
Canadian Elections: Housing Affordability is a Key Issue for Young Voters
Affordability was a key electoral talking point on campaigning alongside the economy on Tuesday, as Statistics Canada reported that the economy contracted at an annualized rate of 1.1% between April and June, and estimated a further decline in real gross domestic product in July.
Experts say that when the economy is good or is seen as going in the right direction, voters are inclined to reward the government of the day.
They also say that when voters think otherwise, they are inclined to punish the incumbent.
Federal elections are scheduled for September 20.
